Nayantara (born 18 November 1985 as Diana Mariam Kurian) is an Indian film actress who mainly appears in Tamil films along with Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films. During her career she has won one Filmfare Award among seven nominations in three different languages. She made her acting debut in the 2003 Malayalam film Manassinakkare and followed with the successful Vismayathumbathu (2004) before foraying into Tamil and Telugu cinema.

She debuted in Tamil Cinema with Ayya (2005), and went on to appear in the commercially successful Ghajini (2005), while Chandramukhi (2005), in particular, became one the most successful Tamil films turning Nayantara into one of the most sought after actresses in Tamil Cinema. She debuted in Telugu Cinema with Lakshmi (2006) and featured in the successful venture Tulasi (2007). She received widespread acclaim for her roles in the films Billa (2007) and Yaaradi Nee Mohini (2008) establishing herself as one of the leading contemporary actresses in Tamil cinema.

In 2010, Nayantara starred in five superhit films in the four Southern Languages including the Bodyguard in Malayalam, Adhurs and Simha in Telugu, Boss Engira Bhaskaran in Tamil and Super in Kannada, with the later three garnering her nominations at the Filmfare Awards in the respective languages. She also went on the star in the critically acclaimed and commercially successful Sri Rama Rajyam (2011) for which she received the Filmfare Award for Best Telugu Actress. Thus, she has established herself as one of the leading actresses in South Indian Cinema

suriya's Maattrraan story

Believe in K V Anand and Surya for the duo are sure to come up with something novel on screen. After Ayan, the duo come up together again to deliver a racy entertainer with Maatran. A tale on conjoined twin well-narrated.

Suriya as usual has given his heart out and delivers the double role with consummate ease. He lends solidity to the script with his performance.

Kajal Agarwal is cool and breezy, while the likes of Sachin Khedekar adds grace to the script. Thanks to AGS Entertainments, the movie has come glossy and colourful. Add to it splendid cinematography by Soundararajan and music by Harris Jeyaraj, you get a wholesome entertainer.

Story

Vimal and Akhil (Surya) are conjoined twins whose father Sachin Khedekar, runs a company that sells kids energy drink. A conspiracy is hatched to play spoilsport on his business and a Russian spy comes to get the formula for the drink from the company. But he gets killed.

Sadly Vimal dies in a mishap and Akhil gets separated from him. Akhil comes to know that the Russian lady was not a spy and the energy drink which was selling in the market actually contains dangerous substances. He leaves for Russia with Kajal Agarwal to unravel the truth.

The rest is all but a racy and an action-packed stuff.

Performance

Suriya is simply at his best. A double delight for his fans. As Vimal, a cool and a calm youth and a loud and fun-loving Akhil is entertaining. One of the best and matured performance in the film. Kajal Agarwal is simply amazing and she is cute, bubbly and vivacious on screen. Sachin Khedker does chip in with his best.

Technicalities

Maattrraan is no doubt a technically rich film by K V Anand. He delivers a stunning show. Soundarajan's camera captures the landscapes of Russia well. Peter Hein has choreographed the action scenes that adds momentum. Anthony's editing and Rajeevan's art direction deserve  a special mention.

Analysis

What else an average fan would want from a Suriya movie. It should be entertaining and fulfil his appetite. Thanks to slick narration by Anand, technically rich visuals and engrossing dialogues besides songs and dance, Maattraan makes its impact felt.
